(BALERT GERRBIK means 'my strong family/kin' and is from the Taungurong language.)
Koorie Balert Gerrbik educators work with parents and carers to build the capacity of Koorie families to support their children's early learning and development.
With nine Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations delivering the program across Victoria this position is vital in delivering this evidence-based parenting support to Koorie Families.
The Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation in Wodonga is seeking a committed Koori educator to join their team of dedicated staff to deliver the Balert Gerrbik program to some 30 families within our footprint.
This identified position is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educator applicants and offers the opportunity to contribute to the strengthening and self-determination of our local Aboriginal communities.
In this key role you will:
- Apply your skills and knowledge in providing parenting education programs to communities throughout the Ovens Murray region of Victoria in collaboration with the broader education and care sector.
- Gather, analyse and disseminate information in relation to current parenting practices and evidence-based programs.
- Assist with the development of parent education programs for families, including vulnerable and high needs families.
- Work with isolated and rural communities and with kindred community-based organisations and providers of family support.
- Deliver quality services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families that address their needs and exceed their expectations.

Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- A current Driver’s Licence.
- A current Victorian Working with Children Check.
- A current Police Check.
- Applicants who have lived overseas for 12 months or longer during the past 10 years are required to provide an international police check.
Skills/Experience
- Qualifications with relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience in early childhood, education, health, social work, community services, behavioural or social sciences.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander families, a demonstrated understanding of issues and barriers experienced by those families, and the ability to network with other agencies to support family and child wellbeing.
- Experience in delivering evidence-based group programs in a community service setting, and the ability to identify current sources of information and evidence-based programs for the purpose of delivering parent education groups.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks, plan workloads and meet deadlines.
- An ability to effectively communicate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and deliver information that meets and addresses their needs.
- Sound interpersonal, communication (both written and oral) and presentation skills.
