An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Community Development Officer to work in a leadership role to deliver high quality outcomes for community, working from the Neporendi Aboriginal Community Centre at 13 McKinna Rd Christie Downs.

 

About the Position

The position reports to the Team Leader Arts, Reconciliation and Cultural Development and is part of the broader Community Capacity team at council.

The position:

  • line manages the Neporendi Community Development Support Officer, and Centre Volunteers.
  • is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Centre.
  • coordinates and is responsible for Centre projects, programs, and activities.
  • is responsible for achieving State and Commonwealth funding agreement outcomes.
  • delivers the Southern NAIDOC March and Family Fun Day Event with direction from the Neporendi Aboriginal Forum Incorporated Board with the support of council and community.
  • supports the Neporendi Aboriginal Forum Incorporated Board of Management to deliver their strategic objectives.
  • writes grant applications to add further value to service delivery.
  • is part of council’s Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, supporting systemic change within the organsiation.


About you

The successful candidate will have high level proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, services, and agencies to develop and deliver meaningful projects, programs, and activities for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. You will have excellent time management and organization skills, be able to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision and have professional verbal and written communication skills. You will have demonstrated success in collaborating with Elders, Traditional Owners, and community leaders to deliver impactful outcomes that align with the aspirations and needs of the community.

 

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and managing complex relationships, and competing demands to achieve positive outcomes.
  2. Significant experience in planning, designing, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating community programs, projects, and events.
  3. Experience in managing and maintaining a culturally safe work environment.
  4. Experience managing staff, volunteers, and contractors efficiently and effectively to achieve identified strategic and operational outcomes.
