ABOUT DEADLY CODERS

Deadly Coders is an ORIC and ACNC-registered First Nations charity dedicated to building digital capability and creating pathways into the technology sector for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. Our programs are culturally safe, community-connected, and designed to create real, lasting economic opportunity for First Nations young people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Deadly Coders is seeking a skilled and passionate educator, academic, or industry practitioner to join the Academy as a Co-Facilitator. This is a hands-on delivery role — you will co-teach live coding sessions, support students through practical challenges, provide real-time feedback on code and projects, and help create a high-energy, culturally safe learning environment where First Nations young people can thrive.

All curriculum and teaching materials are provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-facilitate live coding sessions, technical workshops and project-based learning activities across the 10-week program
  • Deliver content across the full stack — TypeScript, React, Node.js, AWS, Docker and CI/CD pipelines
  • Provide in-session coding support, debugging assistance and constructive feedback on student work
  • Support students through the capstone project, including code reviews and preparation for the live CBA demo
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead Facilitator on pacing, session structure and student progress
  • Contribute to a culturally safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Strong software engineering experience with proficiency in at least one modern language (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go, Java or similar)
  • Experience with modern web development including frontend and backend technologies, REST APIs, and relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Proficiency with Git/GitHub and common development tools
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, training, mentoring or coaching adult learners in a structured environment
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and engagingly to learners at different levels

Highly Regarded

  • Prior experience teaching software engineering at a university, TAFE, bootcamp or similar environment
  • Familiarity with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js and AWS
  • Experience working with First Nations students or in a culturally diverse learning environment

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A direct, meaningful contribution to First Nations digital career pathways
  • Delivery within a state-of-the-art CBA facility in Sydney CBD
  • Collaboration with an experienced Lead Facilitator — all curriculum and materials provided
  • Competitive casual contract remuneration, commensurate with experience
  • The opportunity to be part of the inaugural cohort of a nationally growing program
