We are seeking an experienced Data Management Officers to join our Data Management branch.

As a Data Management Officer, you will contribute to one or more of the following key functions:

  • Supporting the development and delivery of data and analytics governance policies (data use, sharing, AI, automation, analytics), conformance and assurance frameworks
  • Supporting the development and delivery of operational guidelines, as well as expert support and advice to ATO and business partners, to ensure data is legally and ethically sourced and managed across the data lifecycle
  • Onboarding data, data quality and identity matching to make data available for enterprise data and analytics solutions, including the ATO’s Prefill and Tax Time services
  • Managing data governance tools and data platforms through operational support and technical controls
  • Enabling data discovery and promoting data stewardship through catalogue integration with enterprise products

 

Your duties

  • Translate requirements into practical, fit‑for‑purpose data and analytics governance solutions
  • Tailor and convey complex data and analytics concepts (including governance) through clear communication to diverse audiences
  • Contribute to planning and coordination of work
  • Foster strong and collaborative working relationships
  • Utilises expertise to negotiate and influence decision making
  • Support local leadership and build a strong team culture

 

Skills and experience

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: data governance, data quality, data onboarding, data sharing, AI governance, automation or analytics governance, data ethics, data stewardship, or data management practice
  • Strong understanding of regulatory obligations and industry best‑practice frameworks
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, effectively managing conflicting deadlines amid constant change
     

Experience in policy development, policy and law interpretation and its application to data and analytics, data ingestion, privacy and risk, building data literacy and maturity, data management certification, or AI ethics would be highly regarded but not essential.
