AUSTRAC, Australia’s financial intelligence agency, is evolving to strengthen its fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. As we evolve and embrace these changes, we are now recruiting several roles within the Cloud Operations function, to strengthen our cloud capabilities, and to improve our agility and scalability in how we deliver digital service. In these roles will have the unique opportunity to shape and influence Digital Strategy, and Technology outcomes for AUSTRAC.
We're looking for strategic and people-focussed leaders to lead cross-functional IT teams to modernise, adapt, and secure our technology landscape to better support our people and the communities we serve.
Upon application, you will be prompted to select between the following roles.
EL2 Director, Cloud and DevOps Platforms
You will oversee the management of the AUSTRAC cloud and on premises DevOps infrastructure and platforms. As a key member of the Technology and Platforms Solutions (TPS) management team, you'll work with a range of stakeholders including project and product managers, developers, engineers, IT architects and IT security specialists to strengthen the overall ITS environment, to ensure it runs smoothly, efficiently and securely.
You will lead and drive the operational management of cloud-based systems (M365, Azure and AWS) and the DevOps infrastructure platforms that support our containerised environments.
Key duties include:
- Leadership and People Management - Lead platform and infrastructure teams by setting operational direction, managing performance, and ensuring consistent delivery of reliable and efficient enterprise services.
- Strategic Oversight - Provide strategic oversight and direction for the architecture and implementation of M365, Azure, AWS and Kubernetes environments and other M365 and AWS solutions.
- Cloud Infrastructure Accountability - Oversee the development, governance, and implementation of strategies to optimise cloud performance and security. Identify and mitigate potential risks to the cloud infrastructure and data. Ensure the development of relevant design and operational documentation to support the management of future state risk, and Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) assessments.
EL1 Senior Cloud Operations Specialist
You will be the key technical expert, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-based environments across AWS and Azure. This hands-on role provides deep technical leadership in cloud engineering, DevSecOps, automation, and modernisation initiatives. Your focus will be in supporting AUSTRAC’s the cloud first approach and ensuring that cloud and platform environments remain robust, compliant, and cost effective.
Key duties include:
- Cloud Operations, and Maintenance - Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient cloud platforms across AWS and Azure, including the use of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and ARM/Bicep. Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune cloud environments for performance, reliability, incident response, security, and cost efficiency.
- Security, Governance and Compliance - Ensure ongoing operational integrity and security of cloud environments, including Azure, AWS, M365, and integrated on premise platforms.
- Cloud Optimisation and Solutions - Provide senior technical leadership on cloud modernisation and uplift initiatives, ensuring system reliability, performance, and operational excellence. Offer specialist guidance on cloud solution architecture, systems analysis, and design, partnering with engineering, development, and security teams to deliver high quality solutions. Develop, optimise, and maintain automated DevSecOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Key Capabilities for success
The distinction between the EL2 and EL1 roles is determined by the complexity and scope of the work, the level of autonomy, accountability, initiative and independent judgement required. Professional expertise
- Leadership and management of multidisciplinary ICT teams.
- Applied knowledge and understanding of ASD essential 8, PSPF and ISM.
Technical expertise
- Cloud based systems (Azure Cloud, M365, and AWS)
- Demonstrated expertise in AWS (EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda) and Azure (Virtual Machines, App Services, Storage, DevOps).
- Kubernetes experience
- Cloud Technology (Iaas, Paas and SaaS)
- Terraform, CloudFromation, ARM templates
- CICD pipelines and automation tools
- GitLab, M365 integration, and security configurations (desirable)
Qualifications
Relevant Tertiary qualifications or industry certifications, and/or relevant experience in one or more the following disciplines, or other related disciplines is desirable:
- Information and Communications Technology
- ITIL Certifications
- Agile Principles
- Digital Delivery
