Position: Program Manager – Fish Dreaming (Identified position)
Requirement: Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage to apply.
Status: Full time – Fixed-term position for 2 years with potential for extension, subject to funding
Remuneration: $117,000 – $125,000/year pro rata depending on experience, plus Super (out of pocket expenses covered where travel etc is necessary)
Location: Negotiable, must have access to reliable internet and near to domestic airport for travel
OzFish Unlimited is a national NGO dedicated to helping the millions of Aussie recreational fishers take action for the health of their waterways and shore up the future of the sport they love. OzFish partners with fishers, stakeholders and the broader community to invest resources into restoring habitats and waterways, counteracting decades of degradation.
In 2025 OzFish launched their Fish Dreaming Program, designed to take our habitat restoration work beyond basic First Nations inclusion, knowledge and engagement, to delivery of restoration projects that are most important to First Nations communities from a cultural perspective, restoring places of traditional importance to fish and fishing, restoring traditional materials, rituals and celebrations.
OzFish already have on staff a small crew of dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees who are helping us make this part of our operations a reality, we are now looking for a Program Manager to take the strategy and delivery of this Program out to all areas of OzFish operations.
OzFish is seeking a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage as our Program Manager for our Fish Dreaming Program team based anywhere in Australia as long as you have excellent internet and access to a local airport. Working under the direction of the Director – Habitat Programs, you will be responsible for;
- Setting, implementing and monitoring the strategy and targets for OzFish’s Fish Dreaming Program nationally.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key partners to the Fish Dreaming program and its successful delivery
- Mentoring and co-managing the team of River/Sea Culture Officers working with OzFish – including approvals, alignment, deliverables/reporting, communications, stakeholder relationships.
- Expanding the number of River/Sea Culture Officers by working with the OzFish team to develop traditionally important projects
- Identifying and capitalising on additional sources of funding for Fish Dreaming specific projects
- Setting the culture, language and tone of the Fish Dreaming Program
- Expect regular travel across Australia
We are looking for someone enthusiastic about fish habitat and fishing who wants to make a difference to aquatic environments.
Key skills;
- Qualification in Environmental Science, Aquatic Biology or Social sciences, or similar.
- Demonstrated Program level management in science or social setting.
- Experience and demonstrated record in engage the Aboriginal and Torres Strait community
- Exceptional digital tech skills including Microsoft suite, Outlook, Teams and social media platforms
- Willingness to travel, current drivers licence and suitable vehicle for local travel, nearby to an airport.
It would be a bonus if you had;
- Strong technical writing skills
- Experience in collaborating with government and non-government organisations to achieve joint outcomes
- Multiple- project coordination experience
- Strong connections to the local recreational fishing community
