A national organisation leading improvements in the safety and quality of health care in Australia is seeking an experienced and community-minded Medical Advisor – First Nations Health.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape national work that strengthens cultural safety and improves outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the Australian health system.

 

About the Role

Working within a dedicated First Nations program team and supported by senior medical leadership, you will:

  • Provide clinical advice on matters relating to First Nations health and cultural safety
  • Contribute to the development and review of national cultural safety standards, guidance and policy
  • Lead or support research, project work and system improvement activities
  • Build strong relationships with community, clinicians, health services and government stakeholders
  • Represent the organisation through national committees, forums and consultation processes

 

Your expertise will contribute to work that directly impacts clinical practice, policy, and the experience of care for First Nations peoples across Australia.

 

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone with:

  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Senior clinical experience in First Nations health, general practice, or a relevant specialty
  • Strong understanding of the Australian health system and the cultural safety challenges facing First Nations peoples
  • Excellent communication, leadership and relationship-building capabilities
  • Experience in research, policy, system reform or project leadership (desirable)

 

Eligibility - Affirmative Measure

This role is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants under the Affirmative Measure provisions of Section 31 of the Australian Public Service Commissioner’s Directions 2022.
