About the opportunity 

Working under general direction and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, the Instructional Designer will design and develop high-quality digital learning resources across a variety of channels.

You will apply your instructional design expertise to create accessible, engaging, and effective learning products that support AUSTRAC’s education objectives.

The role requires initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in high-tempo environments with competing priorities.

The primary role of Industry Education and Outreach is to engage with AUSTRAC's reporting entities to promote understanding of the AML/CTF Act and associated financial crime risks.

  • Apply Specialist Instructional Design Expertise - Demonstrate a high level of capability in applying technical and specialist design skills and knowledge, with a strong foundation in adult learning theory, UX, inclusive design, and pedagogical practices.
  • Produce Accessible Digital Products - Apply established design and accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG 2.0, Digital Service Standard).
  • Qualifications - Relevant tertiary qualifications in instructional design, educational technology, education or a related discipline will be highly regarded. Previous Australian Government experience will also be highly regarded. Other relevant formal qualifications and/or demonstrated experience will be considered.

Key Duties

The Instructional Designer, under general direction, is responsible for:

  • Designing high-quality, user-centred, accessible instructional products based on content provided by subject matter experts, for use by external audiences.
  • Developing innovative instructional strategies, comprehensive learning pathways, and detailed storyboards to guide content development.
  • Integrating evidence-based pedagogical principles and instructional design models to support effective learning outcomes.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to analyse learning needs, define learning objectives, and incorporate feedback throughout the development process.
  • Designing interactive multimedia learning materials that reflect best practices in adult learning, user experience (UX), and inclusive design.
  • Conducting formative and summative evaluations to assess the effectiveness of instructional materials and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance with AUSTRAC’s Brand Guide, accessibility standards (including WCAG 2), and Australian Government policies.
  • Applying creativity and innovation to develop tailored instructional materials aligned with audience needs, communication objectives, and learning goals.
  • Managing multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality and client service delivery.

Eligibility 

To be eligible for this role you:

  • Must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
  • Will need to undertake AUSTRAC’s pre-engagement checks.
  • Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Baseline Security Clearance
