The Prevention Division aims to prevent cancer for all Victorians. This is done through community interventions, mass media, advocacy, training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to reduce cancer risk. We prioritise health inequalities, especially in relation to Aboriginal people, and in culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.
UNIT SUMMARY
The Quit program is a joint initiative of Cancer Council Victoria (CCV), the Department of Health and VicHealth. Quit sits within the Prevention Division at CCV and includes:

- National Cessation Platform (quit.org.au) - a digital platform which supports all Australians who smoke and/or vape to quit and stay quit
- Quitline Services - telephone counselling service for smoking and vaping cessation in Victoria, South Australia, NT and Western Australia, which also includes Aboriginal Quitline (AQL)
- Quit Victoria - focussed on equitably reducing tobacco related harm across Victoria through social marketing campaigns, policy and advocacy, research and evaluation, and health & community systems level initiatives to prevent uptake of smoking and /or vaping and increased cessation support to all Victorians
- Quit Centre (National Best Practice Support Service for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation) - provides health professionals with the latest clinical information, resources and training on smoking and vaping cessation.
About your opportunity
We are seeking an Aboriginal Adviser to join the Quit Victoria team. Reporting to the State Manager of Quit Victoria your role is to:
- Develop and implement an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement strategy for Quit.
- Provide cultural guidance and advisory support across Quit Victoria, National Cessation Platform and Quitline programs, ensuring culturally safe approaches to smoking and vaping prevention and cessation priorities.
- Support Quit Programs governance activities, including, but not limited to, participation in the National Cessation Platform Committee, Quitline Quality Group, the CCV Stretch RAP committee and represent Quit on external groups.
- Collaborate with Quit program managers, media, communications, research, and evaluation teams to ensure culturally safe practices are embedded in our work.
- Lead and grow key stakeholder relationships and create mutually beneficial partnerships within the Aboriginal sector to enable Quit to deliver on its strategic objectives and the CCV Stretch RAP.

We are looking for someone with:
- Demonstrated ability to build and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, communities and organisations
- Substantial relevant experience in a similar role working with or in the Victorian Aboriginal health or social support sector
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop, maintain and nurture collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in negotiation and problem-solving skills, specifically in working between various sectors and organisations.
- Proven experience in working independently, demonstrating initiative, accountability and influence
- Results focussed with the ability to manage a broad workload, focus on the big picture and deliver key day-to-day tasks.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, including the proven ability to meet tight deadlines
