If you are ambitious and career driven, this is the perfect role for you. The goal of the Operations Cadet/Trainee is to become a Yard Supervisor of scrap metal with further development opportunities.

You will be hands on at the start (yes, you will need to get your hands dirty), learning the intricacies of the scrap metal industry within our recycling facilities. This will hold you in good stead for a successful career with the world’s largest metal recycler. This is a great opportunity to learn all facets of the business holistically.

 

Your new role

Sims Metal’s Trainee/Cadet Program offers the opportunity to learn a profitable sustainable business located predominantly at our Rocklea site. You will learn about what we do through a structured program including rotations within different areas of the business. As part of the Operations Team, you will be helping to achieve operational targets and goals to develop your knowledge and understanding of buying/trading metals, assisting with customer enquiries, pricing reports and administration support to the Operational function of the business. The program will expose you to all aspects of our business with the aim of developing your career to become a Yard Supervisor.

Sims Metal’s Cadet and Graduate Program offers high achieving candidates the opportunity to gain valuable experience across the diverse areas of our business functions. Rotating through our industry divisions you will gain exposure to the following:

  • Site operations
  • Plant production
  • Ferrous & non-ferrous metal
  • Environment, health and safety regulations and policies
  • Export and logistics
  • Fixed and mobile plant engineering & maintenance
  • Business management
