As our new Wellbeing Navigator Peer – First Nations, you will guide First Nations people through an intentional journey of evidence-based treatment, care, and support, supporting people to achieve wellbeing and optimal participation in the community.

 

About you

Utilising your real-life experience, coupled with skills learned through education and training, you will support First Nations people impacted by mental illness, psychological distress and substance use or addiction.

You will be comfortable to share personal experiences with First Nations service participants within a safe and supported way and will have personal experience of a mental illness or psychological distress and recovery. You will offer practical ways of overcoming the day-to-day barriers and challenges faced by all whilst walking a recovery journey, while understanding and supporting the unique factors impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

You are participant focused and you are aligned with a culturally respective approach that includes and strengthens all people, traditions, stories and culture.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing intentional first nations peer support
  • Providing one on one service navigation and care planning
  • Facilitating First Nations group sessions
  • Capacity building
  • Supporting engagement with culturally appropriate treatment supports

 

You will also need:

  • Is acknowledged by First Nations community and leadership
  • Demonstrated strong connection with First Nations communities and demonstrated strong understanding of the lived experiences of First Nations communities on Country
  • Certificate IV/Diploma in Mental Health, AOD or tertiary qualification in social science or 1+ year relevant work experience in the Mental Health Sector or Intentional Peer Support Training
  • 100 points of identification
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia
  • Drivers Licence
  • National Police Check
  • Working with Children Check - Blue Card
  • NDIS Workers Screening Check
  • NDIS Workers Orientation Modules – free online course

Wellways is recruiting First Nations Peer Wellbeing Navigators within all 4 of our new locations.

Wellways is looking for people with a lived experience of recovery in Mental Health and or Alcohol and other Drugs for all of our Peer roles.

New Medicare Mental Health Centres (the new name for Head to Health) will soon be opening locations across Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg. The new locations will provide the community with access to a free, safe, and welcoming space to access mental health advice, supports and services. Walk-ins will be welcomed, are confidential, and no appointment or referral will be needed.

Working together, Wellways and Clarity Health Care will provide a range of support and therapies specific to what the community needs, whenever and wherever they are needed.

Lived experience, inclusivity and partnership will underpin all our work.
