Join our vibrant team in the Indigenous Education and Research Centre as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer and make a significant contribution to teaching, research and community engagement at James Cook University (JCU).
This is a full-time and continuing role commencing mid-2024 that can be based at either of our beautiful campuses in tropical North Queensland; the Cairns Nguma-bada campus or the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus.
- This is a designated position for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Academic Level B: $103,238 - $121,815 or Academic Level C: $125,527 - $144,104 per annum plus up to 17% superannuation
- Level of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
- Relocation assistance may be negotiated for the preferred candidate.
WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE
You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape by leading the development, implementation and evaluation of subjects and courses in Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and Indigenous Studies in a broad range of discipline areas including the development of new academic offerings. You'll prepare, coordinate, and deliver engaging lectures, tutorials and online teaching sessions, and supervise postgraduate students. You’ll also contribute to research and scholarship, and actively engage in University committees and professional networks.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
To excel in this role, you'll need a relevant doctoral qualification and standing, with demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in relation to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and Indigenous Studies. Your track record in relevant teaching and research activities in an area related to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their interests will be key. You bring proven experience in University teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with some experience in postgraduate supervision. The ability to engage effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, a flexible and constructive approach to work design and procedures, as well as excellent communication skills are also essential to succeed in this rewarding role.
