The role of Communication and Information staff in CSIRO is to support the delivery of science/research through the provision of effective communication and management of information, either within or outside CSIRO, to enhance CSIRO's public image and promote its capabilities. The role may involve the storage, retrieval and protection of information. Communication and Information staff typically interact with industry groups, other government agencies, professional groups, and the general public.

The Data Management Advisor is responsible for supporting the planning, description, storage and sharing of research metadata, datasets and software and for encouraging improvements in research data management practice across the organisation. Information Management & Technology (IMT) provides a range of services to assist research staff to manage research outputs.  This encompasses management of research data, including images and software, support services for sharing information assets, and the management of research outputs through the institutional repositories.

 

Your duties will include:

  • Support researchers in using CSIRO’s data management and planning systems.
  • Discuss data management workflows and practice with researchers and assist with incorporating CSIRO's data management systems into those workflows.
  • Assist with the development and testing of CSIRO’s data management and planning systems.
  • Generate improved solutions in work situations, trying creative ways to deal with problems and opportunities.
  • Develop and support data governance initiatives.
  • Liaise with colleagues to improve awareness of research data management initiatives.
  • Maintain user guides and other training materials in a variety of formats supporting data management.

 

Location: Australia wide

Salary: AU$89k - AU$101k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Specified term of 6 months

To be considered you will need:

  1. Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience in science, technology, or information management.
  2. Demonstrated experience supporting the data management requirements of researchers and a sound understanding of the research lifecycle.
  3. The ability to work effectively in a team environment, proactively collaborating and consulting with internal and external stakeholders, as well as sharing resources to accomplish objectives.
  4. The ability and desire to drive and support change to encourage best practice research data management.
  5. Demonstrated ability and willingness to find workable solutions to complex problems and resolve issues using creativity, reasoning, independence, and previous/prior experience.
  6. Demonstrated strong liaison, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to build relationships across a range of professional and disciplinary areas.
