The Virtualisation Team Leader is a key figure within the Scientific Computing Platforms team, possessing in-depth technical expertise in the Information Management & Technology (IMT) domain, specifically focusing on virtualisation and VMWare technologies. This role involves applying domain-specific knowledge and systems design skills to support the virtual infrastructure services provided by the Scientific Computing Platforms.
As a domain expert with extensive experience in implementing and maintaining virtual environments and enterprise platforms, this role involves leading the day-to-day administration of services, providing technical guidance to the team, and serving as the primary point of contact for escalated service incidents and problem triaging.
In collaboration with other leaders within the group, the Executive Manager, and assisting in mentoring and developing team members' technical skills, this senior technical role within Scientific Computing Platforms also supports the roadmap, budget, project planning, and the identification of operational initiatives and service improvements in coordination with other Team Leaders.
Your duties will include:
- Virtual Infrastructure Management:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of virtual infrastructure, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead and mentor the Virtualisation team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Incident Management and Problem Resolution:
- Develop and implement incident management procedures, ensuring timely resolution of issues and minimal disruption to services.
- Strategic Planning and Budgeting:
- Contribute to IMT strategic and operational plans, aligning virtualisation services with CSIRO's overall objectives.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Establish and maintain robust relationships with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure virtualisation services accurately and efficiently support CSIRO's core scientific and enterprise objectives.
- Technical Expertise and Knowledge Sharing:
- Leverage industry-applied knowledge to ensure successful implementation of virtualisation services through systems planning, configuration, testing, and interoperability of solutions.

Salary: AU$121k - AU$142k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
Essential
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or a minimum of 5 years of experience in virtualisation and VMWare technologies, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a technical team, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
- Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for virtual infrastructure projects.
